British Airways is the national carrier of the United Kingdom. It’s one of the largest airlines in the world. The flagship carrier is set to upgrade its passenger service largely in the face of fading demand. UK’s highest hauler lugs more than 35.7 million passengers, according to a survey in 2008. But if its rival carrier i.e., EasyJet, then British Airways is united then it is able to carry 44.5 million passengers.
Basically, British Airways (BA) was established on March 31st, 1924 named after Imperial Airways Limited. It was craved out from its two large London-based airlines i.e., BOAC and BEA and two other smaller regional airlines Cambrian Airways Cardiff and Northeast Airlines Newcastle. Its service kicked off with the de Havilland Comet flights. The route flew from London via Rome and other stops to Johannesburg.
On March 31st, 1974, its four parent companies dissolved and organised into one and came out with British Airways later. British Airways was the first airline in the world to have operated Jet flights. The national flag carrier is headquartered at Waterside, Harmondsworth, London Borough of Hillingdon, and England in the United Kingdom. The main hubs of BA are London Heathrow and London Gatwick.
BA is UK’s largest airline has a strong fleet of 245, which connects more than 169 destinations in 75 countries across the globe. British Airways has 32 outstanding options with Airbus, which may take any of the A320 family. Delivery of the new aircraft has not done as yet. It has also announced orders for six Boeing 777-300ERs and options for four more, an interim measure to cover for delays over the deliveries of their 787-8/9s.
British Airways is also an alliance member of OneWorld. It connects Aer Lingus, Air China, Brussels Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, Flybe and Loganair. British Airways rolls out its new subsidiary OpenSkies. It takes advantage of transatlantic traffic liberalization right which enables non-stop services between major European destinations hassle-free. Air service between Paris and New York has announced much later in 2008. BA later started operating flights to Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, France and Germany as well.
BA has recently proclaimed buying of French airline, L’Avion. The airline has also announced merging of Iberia Airlines with BA. British Airways has also started operating direct flights to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport from London. The economic downturn hit passenger traffic sharply. In the meantime, BA tried selling more tickets in markets with strong currencies to enable it to benefit from exchange rate. British Airways rolls out plans to set up a low-cost travel offer. This follows the success of slashing airfare largely to stimulate passenger factor.
The London-based airline also offers special fare scheme for students. They can carry an additional of 32 kilograms to their mentioned destinations. Its hospitable travel service upgrades to British Airways, always.
